Description   Fittonia (Nerve Plant) – Description & Care Guide Description Fittonia, commonly known as the Nerve Plant, is a beautiful tropical foliage plant famous for its striking vein-patterned leaves. The leaves are usually green with vivid white, pink, or red veins, giving the plant a highly decorative look. It is a low-growing plant native to rainforests of South America, where it grows under dense canopy shade. Fittonia is ideal for terrariums, tabletops, and indoor décor because of its compact size and lush appearance. Care Guide 1. Light Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate low light, but colors become less vibrant. Avoid direct sunlight — it can burn the delicate leaves. 2. Watering Fittonia loves moisture and hates drying out. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top layer feels slightly dry. If the plant droops suddenly, it means lack of water—water immediately and it will recover. 3. Humidity Requires high humidity (60% ). Best suited for terrariums, kitchens, and bathrooms. Mist regularly or use a humidity tray. 4. Temperature Ideal temperature: 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and AC vents. 5. Soil Use a light, well-draining potting mix. A mix containing cocopeat perlite compost works well. 6. Fertilizer Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. No need for heavy feeding. 7. Potting & Repotting Repot once every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Use small pots, as Fittonia prefers compact spaces. 8. Common Problems ❗ Drooping Leaves Usually due to under-watering. Water immediately. ❗ Leaf Browning Caused by low humidity or direct sunlight. ❗ Yellow Leaves Overwatering or poor drainage. Fittonia Uses Perfect for terrariums Great for office tables Adds color to indoor collections Excellent for closed gardens and miniature landscapes
